About Us
Incorporated in 1984, Big River Lumber Company (BRLC) operates as a wholesale and retail hardwood lumber business. We have a small business approach to enable us to remain nimble under all business conditions. We strive to earn the respect of our employees, service partners, partner suppliers, and partner clients. Together, we all can grow and add value to the forest resources we handle. Starting with the random width and length green lumber purchased by Big River Lumber Company to the finished product sold to our partner clients.
Big River Dry Kiln Corporation (BRDK) is located about 20 miles north of La Crosse, in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. BRDK has been in operation since 1984.
BRDK has three kilns with a total capacity of 125,000 BF. We completed expansion of the rough mill in August 2006, we use a Yates B-26 planer capable of surfacing over 500,000 BF per month to customer specifications. The air dry yard has a capacity of 1.5 million BF and is level grade to ensure lumber is flat and straight through the air drying process. We use fluted stacking sticks to prevent sticker stain in all lumber dried at BRDK. Our KD storage sheds hold inventory until Just-In-Time-Shipment, with total capacity of 500,000 BF.
In January 2007, BRDK converted to a high efficiency wood fired boiler system to produce steam to heat the kilns. All wood waste is shredded into fuel consumed by the boiler to ensure we use the best practices for utilizing the forest resources processed by BRDK.
